A Guide to Body Image Counselling

Not sure what to say, if anything, to someone you think might be suffering from a body image, eating or weight problem?  This video/CD was made for you and the growing number of people, especially health and education professionals and parents, who want guidance on how to talk about sensitive body image issues with students, clients and family members.

A Guide to Body Image Counselling was created from a public forum convened by Thea and her former business partner, Louise Wigg in Melbourne with a panel of experts who specialise in the areas of disordered eating, body image and weight issues.    Peter Howell (Psychologist), Terrill Bruere (Dietitian), and Rachel Barbara (Eating Disorder Foundation of Victoria) were asked to give us some guidance for those tricky situations when you simply don’t know what to say.  This CD has distilled the best of what they had to say, into 10 easy to follow steps.  These steps take you through the areas of: preparing what, when and how to talk with the person you care about, initiating a conversation, the range of possible reactions you may face, and closing the conversation in such a way that leaves the door open for ongoing, constructive communication.  Most importantly these tips also cover what not to say, to avoid making the situation worse.
