Working from Home with the Kids

In these short, 10 minute interviews, I invite parents to share their experience with other parents, regarding how they are dealing with being thrown into working from home with their children who are normally at school or preschool .

Remote Work Specialist Rowena Hennigan has been living for 5 weeks under the strict lockdown rules in Spain, with her husband and 6 year old daughter. Restrictions include children not allowed outside, and no outdoor exercise. For Rowena, the daily trip to the outside bin, which she takes very slowly, has become critical for her wellbeing!

Since COVID19 Amy has been working in her children's cubby house, as their main house is rather small (6 x 9 metres).  She and her partner both work part time. In between doing their own jobs, they share the supervision of their two children, aged 4 and 7.

Thea speaks with Kerry Grace, CEO of Regional Development Australia, Mid North Coast, NSW. She has 3 teenage children at home - one doing university, the other 2 schooling from home.

Russell Pell, is the Media and Innovation Manager for Regional Development Australia, mid north coast. Russell has 2 children who are 11 and 8 years old, and he lives with his partner who is self employed as a furniture designer. Russell is glad that his forward thinking boss transitioned to remote, flexible working 6 months before COVID-19.

I speak with Tania Arlington who works almost fulltime in the events industry. Before COVID she worked partly from home and partly in the office. She is a single parent now working at home with her two children aged 12 and 8 year.

Nikki McKee works full time as a company director of Travelbay. She is a single mother who lives with her 10 year old son.

I talk with Steve Eltis Director of People and Culture at WMQ, about how he and his wife are managing working from home with 4 children also now at home. Steve manages a team of 40. His wife is a teachers (0.8EFT) who is now partly at home also.

Here I speak with Tom Burton, Pro Vice Chancellor of Community and Global Engagement, Charles Sturt University. He is working from home with his two energetic young sons aged 4 and 7, and wife who works part time.

Nicki works full time as Head of Marketing for Parents at Work. She is a single mother sharing a small home with her 9 year old daughter.
